It’s a kind of magic…

16 04 2009

highlander-mainThere’s not been many updates recently because we’ve been a bit busy. And the reason we’ve been busy?

Well, we’ve been working as Script Editors on Big Finish’s new series of Highlander audio books, starring Adrian Paul. They’re available for pre-order today including our very own Kurgan Rising. It was recorded at Moat Studio on 31 January 2009 and will be release in July.

Here’s the blurb:

“Everyone has a bogeyman… A name whispered with fear and dread…”

With an increasing number of Immortals disappearing, Duncan and Watcher Joe Dawson decide to investigate. The trail leads to an imposing Parisian office building owned by business magnate Augustus Mason, but nothing can prepare the Highlander for what he will find within. An old friend, a new foe – and an ancient terror reborn!

So what else? Well, we’ve just finished the script for the Iris Wildthyme Christmas Special ‘The Claws of Santa’, which stars the wonderful Katy Manning and will go on sale in December.

There’s a couple more announcements coming, but that’ll do for now.

box-st-indefinablemagicOh, one last thing. Have you ordered your copy of Doctor Who – Short Trips: Indefinable Magic yet? It features Priceless Junk by Mark and myself, where the Sixth Doctor saves Elvis. Yes, that Elvis.

Thank you very much,

There’s going to be a few announcements coming over the next week or so, as we’ve been busy working away on a number of projects.

The first is Robin Hood, a series of talking books from Big Finish. Mark is script editor on the range, and has directed X of the six releases.

Based on the hit BBC One series, the audio books tie into the upcoming third series and are read by actors Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood), Richard Armitage (Guy of Gisborne), Sam Troughton (Much) and David Harewood (Friar Tuck).

The full list of the talking books can be found on our Production Work page and the series can be pre-ordered here.

The Iris Wildthyme Boxout

24 01 2009

n597678942_1944726_4808Did you know that the entire second series of Iris Wildthyme can be bought it a beautiful, funky  boxset? No, well you do now and here it is… why don’t you pop over to the Big Finish site and order it today? Go on, you know you want to…

Mark and I had a good day today, plotting away over numerous cups of coffee for a new audio play which hopefully will be released later this year. Plus, we also received news that the Iris CDs are all signed off and ready to be pressed, recorded an interview for a podcast and watched Casino Royale on Blu-Ray. OK, that last bit wasn’t work related but it was fun all the same.

Hopefully, we’ll be able to talk about some other new projects we’ve been working on soon. Watch this space…

Iris Wildthyme season 2 – Coming soon

16 10 2008

She’s back – and it’s about gin! Created by novelist Paul Magrs, Iris Wildthyme, transtemporal adventuress returns in four new audio adventures across time and space. Bracing the temporal winds in her trusty bus and accompanied by the ever-loyal Panda (a ten inch tall stuffed bear), Iris travels from the depths of space to the gates of Wonderland and beyond. Iris and Panda will bamboozle and befuddle a host of new friends and enemies while always having time to mix a sharp Gin and Tonic. For Iris Wildthyme, closing time waits for no woman…
Big Finish were delighted to work with former Doctor Who companion Katy Manning once again on a second season of solo Iris adventures when the actress jetted back into the UK earlier this year. Also returning is David Benson as the pithy and witty Panda. Each of the four releases affectionately pastiches a different decade in Doctor Who, from the 1960s to the 1990s.

The first adventure, released in February, will be The Sound of Fear by BBC Books novelist Mark Michalowski, and sees Iris and Panda encounter the deadly Naxians aboard space station Radio Yesterday, along with Iris’s ex-husband, Sam, played by Bernice Summerfield regular, Miles Richardson.

Land of Wonder, by Iris’s creator Paul Magrs, sees Iris exiled to Earth and working with top-secret organization MIAOW to investigate dark happenings in the Underground.

In The Two Irises by Simon Guerrier (BBC Books’ The Pirate Loop and The Slitheen Excursion) Panda has not only the return of the Naxians to deal with, but there’s a new Iris aboard the bus – an Iris who is decidedly male…

The season comes to a dramatic end in the action-packed season finale, The Panda Invasion by Mark Magrs. As San Francisco celebrates the millennium, Iris must save the world from destruction, while Panda faces his evil twin, and all because somebody spilt their gin and tonic…

Iris’s creator, critically acclaimed novelist Paul Magrs, says of Iris’s return to audio:

‘It is blissful to have Katy and David back, reprising these roles so delectably, with such effervescence and mellifluous ease. Everyone seems to love these characters and I couldn’t be more cockahoop! It’s time to get back aboard that magical double decker bus!’

Iris Wildthyme is produced by long-time Big Finish contributors Cavan Scott and Mark Wright, and sees the return of Gary Russell to the Big Finish fold as director.

The series will be available as four single-CDs, released monthly from February 2009 which are available to pre-order now. A special collectors boxset of season two will also be released in February, thus allowing you to get hold of all four plays ahead of their individual monthly release. In addition, the two season one Iris audio dramas can be purchased together with the season two boxset at a further discount.

New Doctor Who short story announced

27 09 2008

Mark and myself have a new short story in the upcoming Doctor Who Short Trips collection from Big Finish; Indefinable Magic.

We’re very pleased with the story, entitled Priceless Junk, and (Out March 2009) can be pre-ordered here

Here’s the blurb:

An anthology of brand new Doctor Who short stories that weave a spell over the wonder that is Doctor Who.

A plot to kidnap Elvis Presley…
A woman whose horoscopes prove rather too accurate…
A devastating army of mythical beasts that conquers Britain…

The Doctor and his travelling companions live magical lives – but their lives are tainted by terror. Delve into bizarre, wondrous or simply horrifying worlds with the Doctor and his friends as they land on a world where everyone can fly, help a good friend trapped four centuries in the past, and face aliens that simply want to bring peace to humanity.

Hello and welcome

25 03 2008

Welcome to the new website of Cavan Scott and Mark Wright. We’re writers here in the UK who are probably best know for our work on various cult TV and SF projects including Doctor Who, The Tomorrow People, Luther Arkwright and Judge Dredd. Here you’ll find information and links about our past work and news about our future projects.

Speaking of which I must get back to the first draft of our latest commission. It’s top secret at the moment so all I can say is I’ve just written these words; ‘As I lay coughing up blood from my ruined lungs, something moved in the corner of my eye.’ No idea if that’ll make it into the final draft but we’ll see.

Come back soon for more news on this and other exciting projects.
